Children of D’Hara · Book 4

Book four kept the streak going for me , I’m still really enjoying where The Children of D’Hara is headed, even if this one occasionally made me want to grab everyone by the shoulders and yell, “YOU SAID YOU WERE IN A HURRY.”
The story continues to move along well, and I’m enjoying the shorter, more focused format of these books. There’s still some classic Goodkind repetition and over-explaining, but overall the plot held my attention and kept me wanting to see what happened next.
My biggest irritation this time was the endless questioning from the Mord-Sith and Shale. Richard and Kahlan would make it very clear that time was critical and they needed to get moving… only for everyone to launch into another round of questions. And then another. And somehow Richard and Kahlan just kept answering them. At some point, “we don’t have time” loses a little credibility when you immediately host a twenty-minute Q&A session.
It became one of those things that, once I noticed it, I couldn’t stop noticing it. The urgency of the situation and the leisurely interrogation sessions were constantly fighting each other.
Still, that annoyance didn’t outweigh the fact that I enjoyed the book. The larger story continues to pull me along, and four books in, I’m definitely invested in seeing where Goodkind takes it.
Overall: Another enjoyable entry, occasionally interrupted by the Mord-Sith and Shale apparently believing that impending disaster is the ideal time for a podcast interview.
