Children of D’Hara · Book 3

Cover of Wasteland by Terry Goodkind

Three books in, and Children of D’Hara is still going strong. Wasteland keeps the story moving nicely, while also giving us some extra information about the Glee, and somehow managing to make them considerably creepier in the process. Apparently they weren’t unsettling enough already.

Goodkind still has some of his usual habits: things can be overexplained, conversations occasionally take the scenic route, and brevity remains more of a theoretical concept. But I found that much less distracting here because I was genuinely invested in what was happening.

The additional details about the Glee were probably my favourite part. Learning more about them doesn’t make them less mysterious or threatening; it does the opposite. The more we find out, the more disturbing they become, which is exactly what you want from the villains at this point in the series.

Overall: Another excellent installment. The plot continues to build, the Glee have gone from creepy to please keep those things several dimensions away from me, and I’m thoroughly invested in seeing where this goes next. A very easy 5 stars.
