The World of the Narrows · Book 1

Fable is an entertaining YA coming-of-age story with a storyline that hooked me in and enough character development to keep me interested in the people involved.
I liked that there is more to Fable than you initially guess. Learning about a character gradually is much more interesting than having everything laid out at the beginning, and this gives the story room to develop as you get to know her. The character development was pretty good overall, which helped give the plot something to work with beyond simply moving from one event to the next.
The storyline was the main attraction for me. It pulled me in and made this an enjoyable read, while the additional layers to Fable herself gave me a reason to be interested in what might come next. Apparently one book wasn’t going to be enough to get the full picture.
As an opening book, it does its job well. It tells an entertaining story and leaves a good opening for another one. I finished it interested in continuing, which is a fairly useful quality in the first book of a series.
Overall, a good start with an engaging plot and a protagonist who has more going on than first impressions suggest. 4 stars.
